Baby teething is a total different experience for every child from the time he/she is born to the time the first tooth emerges. For most babies, teething occurs sometime in the first year, however, some babies are born with teeth already emerged. Teething comes with pain and discomfort and can cause a lot of trouble turning the most relaxed babies to be irritable.

There are a number of spot signs that can indicate your baby’s irritability is due to teething. Having proper knowledge of this signs can help you treat the discomfort. For a few lucky parents, teething doesn’t cause any noticeable signs of discomfort. The length of the symptoms varies from just a few days to several months.

• Excessive drool
• Fussiness and Irritability

i. Reduce inflammation Inflammation from teething often stimulates nerves which in turn cause pain. It is important to help relieve the baby’s pain by reducing the inflammation. This can be done through lowering the baby’s stress by ensuring he/she gets enough rest in addition to breast milk, balance the baby’s sugar by feeding him/her on whole foods instead of processed snacks and finally, focus on a low inflammation diet like fresh fruits and vegetables. ii. Boost the immune system of the baby Often at times, baby teething causes fevers and colds and most parents notice a running nose while the baby is cutting teeth. Boosting the immune system by giving your baby vitamin D drops or probiotics to help prevent dealing with double ailments for your baby. iii. Cold and pressure Using cold and pressure can be used as a remedy to relieve the baby’s aching gums. This can be done by freezing a few safe objects like fruits, natural solid wood toys, natural teething biscuits, a cold spoon among others and giving the baby to chew. The cold objects help numb the area and the pressure is relaxing for inflamed gums. iv. Teething toys During teething, the baby often needs something to chew to get through the pain. There are a number of teething toys which are safe and non-toxic that can help relieve the pain. v. Herbal remedies Herbal remedies such as chamomile, clove, and rose-hip packed with vitamin C and antioxidants are great for boosting the immune system in addition to containing anti-inflammatory properties. In as much as teething can be overwhelming to both the baby and parent, there are lots of things you can do to help your baby cope with the pain and discomfort.
